Using Weblogs to Drive Traffic to Your Site and Sell Products
How many times have you heard it as a website owner, “You have to get a blog! You have to write a weblog to increase traffic!” To be certain, Internet marketing has expanded beyond the proper combination of keywords in your META tags and saturated content on your landing page. Internet users trust websites laden with relevant content, and search engines give more credence to websites regularly producing that content. Implementing a weblog into your website can make for an integral tool in promoting your business, services, and products.
A weblog, or blog, is a type of website in which content is posted on a regular basis and displayed in reverse chronological order, not unlike a newsfeed, journal or diary. Weblogs are most often created through specialized content management software that allows for instantly publication, unlike a regular website where you may have to update and upload via FTP. Blogging management is more sophisticated in that users may publish to the Internet with a click of the mouse.
Blogs have come into popularity in recent years due to ease of publication. Blogging software is readily available for advanced users, and people who know little about web design may register onto a free blogging service and create a blog in mere minutes. For the online entrepreneur, blogging present many advantages:
Blogging is free!
Weblog software is often presented as a third-party web-based system, applicable to your website with the proper FTP information or onto an ad-supported free site. A number of weblog companies offer their services and software for free, some in exchange for volunteer donations, others in exchange for obligatory advertising. If you are active writer, you can launch a weblog as your main site for free without having to worry about extraneous costs in online marketing.
Blogging helps establish your style!
While many people use blogs to record personal thoughts, creative writing, and random facts, others use blogs to relay political and industrial news and opinion. Many companies, media organizations, and other entities may use blogs to advertise services and items, or relay news faster. Once you get into your personal “blogging zone,” you may detect a personal style that attracts readers. If you operating a consulting business, for example, you may use your blog to relay helpful tips to readers and advertise further services. A published author may record adventures in public booksignings and conventions, while the owner of a craft and hobby store may offer pictures of new product or fun project ideas.
Blogs may also be interactive and employ the use of audio media, images, and comment sections for readers to leave feedback. The more opportunities you allow for users to communicate with you through your weblog, the great the opportunity for an increase in business.
An owner of a music-oriented website may be able to embed audio clips into a weblog to showcase represented artists or the owner’s own work. This practice is also known as podcasting. Feedback can be collected in comments sections by listeners, which are published instantly as each user relays a message. This in turn can also help reduce SPAM to your inbox by eliminating the need to post an e-mail address.
Blogging is search-friendly!
The amount of fresh, relevant content available on blogs, as opposed to traditional websites, has in recent time captured the attention of the search industry. Google has made available specialized search for blog content, and new search engines geared specifically toward blog content search are finding popularity. News and current issue weblogs, especially, gain much from the growing attention of search resources
It is due to the continuing importance of blog content that SEOs may recommend websites to add blogs and blog content, as blog content tends to be spidered and indexed at a faster rate than traditional weblog content. Blog content may also be syndicated and aggregated into RSS readers for wider exposure. If you are using a third party blog management system, you may find your content is already syndicated via an XML file that is updated with every new post you make. A quick search on the Internet, too, can lead to you numerous compendium sites offering helpful tools to enhance your blog’s visibility and usability.
Affiliate Yourself!
Especially if you are an author, musician, or retailer with product sold through third parties, you can use your weblog to generate income. Affiliate marketing is fast becoming a popular method of e-commerce. Serious affiliate commerce experts set up sites unique to the product they wish to market and acquire data feed information from various stories with which they “affiliate.” Every time a customer clicks through a link on an affiliate site to purchase a product, the owner of that site makes a small percentage of the sale. If done and marketed properly, one could do well to earn a steady stream of cash through affiliate marketing.
Using affiliate links on your weblog can work to your advantage as well. Say you have a book you wish to promote and it’s listed on Amazon.com, BN.com, and other book retailers. Many of these online stores have affiliate programs which allow site owners to use a specially coded URL on their pages to direct traffic to the main store to shop. The code lets Amazon.com and Barnes and Noble know the customers are coming from the affiliated sites, so the affiliate gets a share of each sale.
As an author, you can sign up as an affiliate to promote your own works and collect affiliate income in addition to the royalties you stand to make from the original sale! Same with musicians selling CDs, crafters selling their gifts, and so on.
For an author or retailer of a niche product, an attractive website is an important tool for marketing via the Internet. Your website is your calling card, the ultimate presentation of your work, and as such delivers to visitors the relevant information needed to entice them into purchasing. Search engine optimization tactics like good use of META data and keywords, HTML content that is friendly to search, and strong link popularity can be helpful in driving traffic to your site, but ultimately the best method of promoting your work is to write about your work, and do it often. Updating a website at a constant rate, however, can be a chore, which is why having a blog attached to your site can be an effective tool in online marketing. Get noticed, get a blog, and get to writing!

do you know the best way to start a product comparison blog and how to get paid for using various products?
i think it would be a cool idea to get paid to compare products on the market..or even to try them out so that everyone will know if they are worth buying.
how do you go about properly setting up such a blog and approaching manufacturers to send their products to you? or do you just set up the site and buy your own products of interest to talk about.
i would love to do this and to get mass traffic to the site.
what are your thoughts?
The absolute easiest way to setup a blog is use google:
www.blogger.com
You can have a blog up and running in 5 minutes.
When you 1st start, you’ll almost certainly have to buy the products yourself. If and when you develop a following and start getting some real traffic to your blog (like at least 10,000 hits / mo) then you can attract sponsors to give you products to review.
In the meantime put google adsense on your site to generate revenue (don’t worry; blogger makes it real easy to do this).
As far as getting mass traffic - add lots and lots of good articles to your site. Get links from other websites, leave links in comments, etc.
You’ll eventually get there - good luck
how do i get my blogs more traffic?
pls help i’m in need of traffic
There is no single way (besides paid advertisement) to increase traffic to a website or blog. You have to try different ways like regular participating in relevant forums with link to your blog in signature, submitting the RSS feeds, Telling your friends and their friend about your blog and so many others too. You need to put regular effort to get the results.

The 3 Best Website Traffic Sources
Copyright 2005 Jim Edwards
Not a day goes by that any serious website owner doesn’t wonder
how to get more traffic to their site.
This intense desire to generate more clicks makes virtually any
online entrepreneur easy prey to many of the traffic schemes and
scams that pervade the Internet like conmen on a carnival
midway.
Promises of fast traffic and big bucks often separate even the
most savvy business person from their money because they want to
believe the promises made by these traffic hucksters.
However, rather than thinking “complicated equals better” in the
traffic game, the best website traffic sources rate extremely
easy to separate from the useless garbage traffic.
Fact: “Good Traffic” equals “Targeted Traffic!”
That means the visitors come as a result of desire to find out
more on a specific, niche topic, not as a result of “exit”
traffic or membership in a “safe” list where members simply
pitch each other in an incestuous spam fest.
Good traffic comes from people clicking links on topics targeted
to their interests and getting directed to a website containing
information they want and expect as a result of clicking the
link.
Bottom line, when you get right down to it, the best, most
dependable sources of targeted traffic come from links that
people click.
So, next time you’re considering spending money on a traffic
source, understand that unless it involves a targeted link that
a targeted visitor can click to get to your website, think twice
before opening up your wallet.
To my knowledge, only three ways exist to get a link to your
site: buy it, “voodoo” it, or grow it.
** Buy Links**
Buying links actually rates the fastest way to get traffic to
your website.
You simply sign up for Google AdWords at Google.com or you open
an account with Overture.com.
You then run ads with a link on those sites and any time someone
clicks the link, you pay for the click through a relatively
straightforward bidding process based on the popularity of the
keyword.
You can also buy links in ezines, newsletters, and on other
people’s website either on a per-click basis, for a period of
time (a week or month), or in exchange for paying them a
commission if a sale gets made as a result of a click on the
link.
** Linking “VoodDoo” **
Linking “voodoo” refers to attempting to manipulate the search
engines into displaying links to your website.
You can find a large number of automated software programs
online at any given time that will claim to help you get more
search engine traffic.
Depending on the intensity of competition in a specific market
and the fact that search engines change their rules frequently,
pursuing search engine links this way can quickly turn into the
online equivalent of Alice chasing the rabbit down the hole.
** Grow Links **
I personally prefer this method to get links to my websites:
growing them.
The best type of link to get involves one person telling another
person, either explicitly or implicitly, they should click the
link and visit the site at the other end.
One way to do this is simply to exchange links with another site
which targets the same audience as your site.
You can manage this process manually or use one of the many
software packages that will mange the process for you.
A search on Google.com for “reciprocal link manager software”
yields a good start.
The easiest way to grow a link is through using articles other
people post on their websites which link back to your website.
The reason articles work so well for “growing” links involves
the numerous ways in which articles get distributed online, each
of which can create dozens, hundreds, even thousands of
different links back to your website by publishing a single
article.
In fact, the following represent only the tip of the iceberg
when it comes to all the places you can grow links by publishing
articles online.
~ Blogs - Your articles can not only appear on your own blog,
but get posted by others on their blogs with surprising ease.
The links in these articles can point directly back to your
website.
~ Article Directories - Article directories such as
IdeaMarketers.com abound online.
They not only provide an easy way to display your articles to
allow others to pick them up for posting on their websites, but
also in and of themselves attract readers searching for content.
~ OPS (Other People’s Sites) - Popular websites like
WebProNews.com attract repeat visitors by offering targeted
content to their readers.
Since they can’t produce all the content themselves, they
publish articles created by others. Links from these sites can
bring a steady stream of targeted visitors by giving you
targeted exposure.
~ Ezines - By getting your articles published in other people’s
ezines, you can get a link on the most valuable real estate
online, a targeted prospect’s email “inbox.”
Many ezine publishers run articles written by others to their
targeted readers, and your link in the resource box can bring
you a veritable avalanche of targeted site visitors when
hundreds, even thousands of people receive your article at the
same time.
Whether you choose to buy them, “voodoo” them, or grow them,
getting targeted links to your site posted on the Internet
represents the absolute best way to get steady traffic to your
site.
Though not as fast as buying them or as exciting as trying to
manipulate the search engines, growing links with articles gives
you a long-term, dependable presence online.

Create Multiple Income Streams With Niche Blogs
One of the keys to creating massive wealth in life is to create multiple streams of income or passive income.
After all, the reason why most people work is to earn an income to support their standard of living.
When you work in a job, regardless of the position and level you are in, you are basically trading your time and skills in exchange for a regular paycheck. People who depend solely on their job as the only source of income are highly at risk.
This is because you can only continue to work in your job provided you are healthy and the company and economy is doing well. However, during recessions, with corporate America ever trying to please shareholders and investors, naturally the first thing that comes to mind is cost cutting. This normally translates to layoffs and retrenchments.
Technological advancement brought about the Internet, which was initially used more for research purpose. It was not long before companies, businessman and entrepreneurs discovered the potential of Internet in conducting business.
There are many online business models that can be used to create multiple income streams.
For example, one popular marketing strategy employed by marketers is to set up a one page site offering free gifts or information like an e-course to people who opt-in to their list.
Next, using an auto-responder, they will then follow-up with these prospects seven times or more until eventually they purchase some product either their own, or other people’s products.
Another business model that can be used is Google Adsense, which is becoming increasingly popular. There are frequent stories of ordinary people earning a substanstial amount of passive income each month just based on this method alone.
Today, you can set up an online store, a directory of pages, an affiliate site, a blog for for many, many times lesser than what it would cost you to set up a brick and mortar business.
For less than fifty dollars, you can register a domain name for just $6.95 for one year, sign up with a $9.95 a month web hosting to host unlimited domains and spend the remainder of the money to drive traffic to your sites using pay-per-click programs.
If you want free traffic, you can use a myriad of strategies available to small and medium online business owners, such as article marketing, blogs, rss feeds, podcasts just to name a few.
What has all this got to do with you, you might ask?
Simple. Going back to the fact that one can only work a fixed number of hours in a day, the only way to increase your wealth is to create additional income streams for yourself.
Setting up your own online businesses to create multiple income streams is one of the easiest and most inexpensive ways to do so.
Blogs, or more specifically niche blogs offer the budding entrepreneur the best of both worlds in terms of traffic generation and the flexibility of multiple income streams all on one site.
The idea behind niche blogs is this: Set up a blog on a niche topic, for example acne causes and solutions, post articles on it and add in income streams such as Adsense, Amazon, Chitika and even Clickbank.
Next, use the blog’s built in rss feeds and submit them to rss directories to start driving traffic to the niche blog.
The result? You’ve just created your first stream of passive income.
Imagine creating 10, 50, 100, 1000 of these niche blogs. How many streams of income would you have created? You can create a niche blog in basically any niche, for example coin collection, keeping aquariums, candle making just to name a few.
Start taking charge of your financial future now and create your own niche blogs.
